I had the pleasure of calling Oxford, Mississippi home for four years while I attended the University of Mississippi, most commonly referred to as Ole Miss. A lot of my time was spent on the Oxford Square, whether it was for shopping, eating, or going out. What is the Square? I am so glad you asked! The Square is the center of town and the heart of Oxford’s nightlife. There are lots of bars on the Square (some old and some new), so deciding where to spend your evening can be a challenge. Let me help narrow down your choices by giving you what I think are the best bars in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Best Bars In Oxford, Mississippi
Funky’s Pizza & Daiquiri Bar
Let’s start this list with my favorite bar in Oxford. Funky’s is a New Orleans style bar serving daiquiris and the best pizza in town. Order a Skinny Bitch, Hurricane, or Taylor Swift if you’re really trying to throw down. Funky’s also serves liquor and beer.
Best Time To Visit: Oldie’s Night
Rafters has a Louisiana vibe and showcases live music. Indulge in Gator Bites, Boudin Balls, or Shrimp Etouffe while sipping a drink and listening to the band. This is a popular spot with Ole Miss students, alumni, and parents.
Tip: Rafters has a Bluegrass Sunday Brunch
The Graduate hotel’s fourth floor terrace lounge is The Coop. Serving craft cocktails and Southern food, you can sit inside and gaze at the beautiful bar or on the patio for great views of the Oxford Square. Champagne fans should order the Frosé. It’s awesome!
Made up of three separate spaces (a sports bar, music hall, and patio), The Library is the most popular bar in Oxford. That being said, The Library almost always charges a cover and it only gets more expensive the later it gets. Get there early!
Best Time To Visit: When The Mustache Band is playing
Tip: Don’t start a tab. The Library doesn’t have one computer system, so you have to order from the same space every time–a problem for people who want to walk though the entire venue.
Although Bouré is a great restaurant, it makes our best bars in Oxford list due to the second floor balcony. Grab a seat outside, have a craft cocktail, and enjoy the fantastic people watching opportunity. Bouré is very popular with parents visiting Oxford.
Where To End Your Evening
You can’t complete your evening on the Square without a late night snack. If you are craving pizza, head to Square Pizza, right beside The Library on Van Buren Avenue. It really hits the spot after a night of drinking.
For the ultimate Oxford post bar experience, go to the four Corners Chevron (intersection of University and Lamar Avenue) and order a Chicken-on-a-Stick. It is just that: chicken on a kabob skewer. You will probably have to wait in line, but trust me it is worth the wait. I wouldn’t recommend chicken from a gas station if it wasn’t really good!
What Bar Will You Visit?
Although Oxford is full of bars, these are the ones we think are best. Each offers something unique, resulting in completely different experiences. So, which of these bars in Oxford, Mississippi will you visit?
