The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit

Cities in the South are raving about the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit, which debuted in Paris with over 2 million visitors. The exhibit has been so popular in Dallas it has been extended until November 28. What exactly is the Immersive Van Gogh, and why should you go (or Gogh)? Because it is an exhibition of art like you’ve never seen before.

Even if you are not an art lover, the immersive Van Gogh is something no one should miss. Instead of paintings on the walls of a quiet museum, one has the opportunity to be inside the paintings and witness the creativity of Vincent Van Gogh first hand in 500,000 cubic feet of massive, moving projections. Wandering through the exhibit as it moves around you is an overwhelming experience of color, sound, and sheer beauty. The images display color and detailed brushstrokes that highlight Van Gogh’s genius, an impressionist artist who sold his paintings for food, room, and board during his lifetime.

For those who have never experienced the wonders of art, the immersive action is unique and powerful. Even though I have always been an art lover, the immersive Van Gogh knocked my socks off! I felt as though I had been transported to the world of impressionist France in the 1880s. The colors of the sunflowers, the sky, the sun, the hay…I felt as though I was a part of the painting, not an observer. And the starry, starry nights! Beautiful.

I attended the event in Dallas, at the Lighthouse, 507 S. Harwood in downtown Dallas. The event has been extended due to the overwhelming popularity of the exhibition. You can seat yourself on the floor, on cushions, and even some chairs in the space. You can relax with social distancing, masks required and increased sanitization protocols.

Houston, TX

The Immersive Van Gogh will open in Houston, Texas, on October 14 through November 28. The venue is a 16,500 square foot converted warehouse at 1314 Brittmore Road near the CITYCENTRE and The Cannon. Audiences will have the opportunity to step into this unique space, transfigured with Van Gogh’s paintbrush in a swirl of color, brought to life with over 90,000,000 pixels of animation and a beautiful soundtrack.
