The 12 Days of Christmas at the Dallas Arboretum is Pure Magic! When it comes to Christmas in Texas, the 12 Days of Christmas at the Dallas Arboretum is one of the best displays in the Lone Star State.
From November early to the end of December, you can see the beloved 12 Days of Christmas Display. Twelve Victorian-style gazebos depict each of the days in the infamous carol. You can see them during the day or at night, when the Dallas Arboretum is lit with more than one million lights adorning the garden. The Arboretum is open daily and offers extended hours for this event.
The Literal Meaning of the 12 Days of Christmas
My daughter, Alexandra Minton, and I were wowed at the Dallas Arboretum’s 12 Days of Christmas and the lighting of the Arboretum’s 30 foot Spruce Christmas Tree! The light switch was flipped by none other than Santa himself. Each gazebo is a wonder in and of itself. Allow me to show you some of the highlights of the 12 Days of Christmas at the Dallas Arboretum.
Each 25-foot high Victorian Gazebo represents a day of the carol.
Have you ever wondered what a “Calling Bird” is? The 1780 version of the carol “four colly birds”—colly being an English expression for “coal-black”. In other words, the birds referenced were actually Blackbirds. The Dallas Arboretum’s version of the birds is delightfully colorful!
I was mesmerized by the glittering Seven Swans a Swimming. As they went around I took in every detail of these gorgeous, crowned swimming swans!
One of the loveliest displays is Nine Ladies Dancing. Each dress is hand sewn, and incredibly detailed. I wondered if I was in the Drawing Room at Downton Abbey!
A Holiday Event You Will Adore
The 12 Days of Christmas is a beautiful, cumulative carol representing the days between the birth of Jesus and the coming of the Three Wise Men. These dates are December 25th, Christmas Day, through Epiphany January 6th. Many countries observe the full 12 Days of Christmas. The grand gifts to the singer’s “true love” are shown to perfection at the Dallas Arboretum’s 12 Days of Christmas in musical, animated 25 foot high display cases.
You do not want to miss one of the south’s most treasured Christmas displays!
