South Padre Island is located on the coastal tip of Texas. It’s WAY down south y’all! The Island is known for its beautiful beaches and warm Gulf waters.

On the Island, there are 34 miles of things to do and see, but when I need a quick South Padre Island girls’ getaway to rejuvenate, I want to enjoy great girl time while relaxing, walking the beach, and eating well.

Relax at the Beach

Whether you are a diehard fan of La Quinta Inns or not, the La Quinta® by Wyndham South Padre Island Beach hotel is great choice for a girls’ getaway. It is located right on the beach and has one of the quickest walks out to the ocean of any hotel on the island. While I’m all about getting a little exercise, I’d rather be doing it on the beach, and not on the walk there!

I have found the rooms to be comfortable and spacious! Balcony views of the beach are spectacular. I loved spending time on the balcony after supper and watching the sun rise.

Another great perk of La Quinta South Padre is the complimentary breakfast; it will surprise you! Besides an array of hot and continental breakfast options, made to order omelettes and tacos are also available! I have stayed at this La Quinta multiple times and have wonderful memories from these getaways.

Walk the Beach

There’s just something about walking the beach that drains stress! The ocean waves, salty air, and sand between my toes makes me feel good again.

While summer at South Padre has its charms, I love to visit in the fall and winter when the crowds have gone home, and there is space to wander and talk uninterrupted. You don’t want to go to South Padre and not walk the beach, even if you’re not up to swimming.

South Padre Eats

South Padre Island has so many wonderful places to dine. Here are two of my favorites that have been a must on every girl trip. They are actually just across the causeway in Port Isabel, but both have amazing views of the ocean and South Padre Island.

Dirty Al’s Pelican Station

This fine dining restaurant is located on the site of the original Rio Grande Railroad Station! Dining with a scenic view of the bay and the Queen Isabella Bridge is always the perfect recipe for great girl time. We never eat and leave!

Dirty Al’s Pelican Station is known for great sea food. I’ve never had a bad meal here! When it comes to girl trip getaways, however we dive into the Lobster Bisque served in a bread bowl!

Pirate’s Landing

On the other side of the street and also with great views of the bay, bridge, and island is Pirate’s Landing.

You have to try Pirate’s Landing’s Fish Po-Boy. Everyone I’ve ever taken here wants to go back for this fresh red snapper sandwich. Normally I’m not a huge fan of seafood, but this sandwich served on their homemade bread is to die for!
